Dr. Grant Lum, MD, CCFP, Dip Sport Med - Medical Director and Founder Grant Lum has been practicing sports medicine and performing arts medicine since 1994. He is a leading authority in the field of sports medicine, and is dedicated to learning, teaching and furthering advancements within his field.
Grant is the team physician for Squash Canada, a consultant for the NHL Players’ Association, and a Lecturer at The University of Toronto, in the Faculty of Medicine. Grant is also the Medical Director of the Fitness and Lifestyle Management Program at George Brown College, where he assists in curriculum development. Grant is currently the sports medicine expert blogging for CTV News. He also contributes regularly to The Weather Network. His articles discuss the link between weather and health as well as appearing many times in print, radio and on television. He has been interviewed by: Canadian Press, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, The Medical Post, Healthwatch Magazine, and Healthwise Magazine. He has appeared on: Life Network – Diagnosis MD, TSN – Off The Record, CTV – The Chatroom, Balance TV, The Score, and CBC News.
Adam Cook - Registered Massage Therapist, Physiotherapist Assistant, Clinic Manager of AESM at The Boulevard Club Adam is a graduate of the Sutherland Chan School of Massage. He has been with AESM since 2002, and a clinic manager at AESM @ Boulevard since 2003. Adam`s skills as a massage therapist are supplemented by his accreditation as a physiotherapy assistant, and a certification in ultrasound provision. Adam works extensively with the professional dance community and served as the lead therapist to the cast of Cirque du Soleil in several of their shows in Toronto. Adam is an ex-high school football player, and keeps active cycling as well as lifting weights.
Ashlea Wilson - Physiotherapist, Contemporary Medical Acupuncture, Dance and Performing Arts Treatment Provider Ashlea Wilson obtained her Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology degree with a minor in Health Studies from McMaster University and continued her education at the University of Toronto completing her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy. Ashlea is currently pursuing further certification of her manual therapy skills and has provided physiotherapy coverage at such events as the Toronto Ultimate Club summer championships and the Toronto production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Ashlea loves to stay active at the gym and plays basketball, baseball and golf. Ashlea is certified to perform BESS testing as well as Shockwave Therapy. Candace Lewis - Certified Fitness Trainer Candice Lewis obtained a degree in nutrition from Ryerson University in 2006 before continuing education at George brown college in the Fitness and Lifestyle Management program. Certified as a fitness professional through the Canadian society of exercise physiology, she has been helping individuals make healthy lifestyle changes in exercise and diet for the past 5 years. Candice is currently pursuing further certification in her personal training skills having recently completed Resistance training Specialist (RTS) part 1 and 2 with RTS part 3 soon to follow.
Carolina Rotondo - Physiotherapist, Candidate for MacKenzie method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment, Dance and Performing Arts Treatment Provider Carolina graduated from D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY with a Master of Physical Therapy in 2006. She also holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours Life Sciences) from the University of Toronto (2003). Carolina began her career by working as a travel physical therapist in the U.S. which exposed her to various clinical settings including independent orthopaedic clinics, acute care facilities, inpatient rehabilitation institutions and geriatric medicine. Carolina has a strong interest in the dance and performing arts community and their very unique injuries and is currently involved in the organization, Healthy Dancer Canada. Using both manual skills and specific exercises she enjoys helping patients with back and neck pain, neurological diseases overuse/repetitive injuries, sports injuries and headaches. Carolina is currently working toward credentialing in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, and learning more manual skills through the Mulligan Concept.
Chloe Comeau - Office Administrator Chloe is one of the newest members of AESM’s stellar team of office administrators and receptionists. Working within AESM, she has quickly gained full knowledge of the staff and the programs available to our clients.
Christine Hines - Office Administrator Christine is a valued member of AESM’s friendly and welcoming office administrators and receptionists. Having worked with AESM for over two years, she has full knowledge of the staff and the programs available to our clients.
Dr. Aaron Nauth - Orthopedic Surgeon Aaron attended medical school at Queen’s University and subsequently completed his Orthopaedic training at the University of Toronto. His subspecialty training includes a fellowship in Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine from the University of British Columbia and fellowship training in Orthopaedic Trauma and Upper Extremity from St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. His clinical interests include hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopy as well as orthopaedic trauma.
Dr. Allison McMillin - DC Chiropractor Allison is an avid skier and snowboarder, and a graduate of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. She specializes in acupuncture, Sonocur shockwave therapy, Graston Technique and other forms of chiropractic services. She is also certified in Fit For Golf, a golf injury prevention program. She keeps active in yoga, running and, of course, golf.
Dr. Clara Leung, DC - Chiropractor Clara has a special interest in working with the athletic and performing arts populations. She has worked with NHL hockey players, Olympic basketball teams, and as an “IronDoc” at the Ironman Triathlon races around North America. Her 14 years of training in ballet and her previous position as a cellist with the North Toronto Symphony Orchestra have provided her with an understanding of the unique physical challenges that artists confront. Clara is a tri-athlete. She has lectured on topics such as Injury Prevention, and Women and Exercise, and she has appeared on national television as an expert in health and wellness.
Dr. Devon Ackroyd, DC - Chiropractor Devon is a graduate of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He has a passion for competitive swimming, having competed on the National stage and for four years in the NCAA while attending university on a swim scholarship. He is intimately familiar with the needs of high performance athletes and is certified in the following areas: – Active Release Technique® – Graston Technique – Kinesio-taping – Medical Acupuncture – Strength and conditioning specialist. Devon keeps active in swimming, baseball, running and golf. He is available at the downtown Toronto facility on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Dr. Erik Yuill, DC - Chiropractor Erik finished his Chiropractic degree in 2009 graduating at the top of his class. He is currently completing a residency in Sports Medicine at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Erik has undergraduate degrees in Biology and Physical and Health Education and a Masters of Science in Neurophysiology. Erik is currently the team doctor for the Vaughan Shooters in the Canadian Soccer League. Erik is able to provide a wide range of sport specific treatments: Active Release Technique, Acupuncture, Graston Technique, Ultrasound, and Athletic Taping. Erik enjoys running, rock climbing, and Ultimate Frisbee, and was a national level swimmer while in high school and university.
Dr. Kate Hays - Sport Psychologist Dr. Kate Hays practises clinical psychology and sport psychology in Toronto as a Sport Psychologist with Athletic Edge Sports Medicine. She was a member of and trainer for the New York City Marathon Psych Team (1986 – 2000), as well as a member of the Boston Marathon Sweep Team. A frequent lecturer throughout North America, Dr. Hays combines her expertise in sport psychology and psychotherapy. As an avid runner for more than 25 years, Dr. Hays is an expert in mental skills training and sport psychology with runners.
Dr. Melanie De Haan - Physiatrist, Sports Medicine Physician Melanie is a physiatrist and sports medicine physician. She currently practices at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre as a consultant in Neuromuscular Disorders, and has subspecialty training in Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Testing.
Dr. Michael Blankstein MD, MSc, FRCSC - Orthopedic Surgeon Michael is an orthopedic surgeon with an interest in lower extremity reconstruction and trauma. Dr. Blankstein completed his Hons BSc in human biology at the University of Toronto and subsequently received his MSc degree in orthopedic trauma research. He went on to complete medical school and orthopedic surgery training in Toronto as well. Dr. Blankstein’s interests also include surgical education in the developing world.
Dr. Rosty Serebryany, DC - Chiropractor Rosty is a 2005 graduate of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Rosty was a national team gymnast for 14 years, competing for Canada on the international stage. This experience has given him insight into high level athletics and a personal perspective on the injuries that occur in high level training. Rosty continues to keep himself in top physical condition, and is a member of our Runner`s Clinic assessment team.
Dr. Steven Dilkas - Physiatrist, Sports Medicine Physician Steve is a physiatrist and sports medicine physician. He currently practices at West Park Hospital as a consultant in Neuromuscular Disorders, and has subspecialty training in Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Testing.
Gillian Morrow - Certified Fitness Trainer Gillian is our certified fitness professional. She is available for both fitness testing as well as ongoing physical training sessions in Toronto.
Helen Li - Registered Massage Therapist Helen is a graduate of the Sutherland Chan School of Massage. She has been involved in providing care at events such as marathons and dragon boat festivals. Helen is also certified in ultrasound provision, as well as Active Release Technique, a rare certification for massage therapists. She divides her time between AESM`s two locations, downtown and AESM at The Boulevard Club.
Jolene Furneaux - Office Administrator Jolene is an important part of the AESM’s admin team. As a part of the AESM for the past two years, she has full knowledge of the staff and the programs available to our clients, and is dedicated to serving the valued patients at AESM.
Kim Jelly - Physiotherapist, ART practitioner, Medical Acupuncture, Physiolates provider Kim is a 19 year veteran of physiotherapy, previously head therapist at two multidisciplinary centres in the GTA. She has worked with many elite amateur and professional athletes, and was herself a runner with the Canadian National team. Kim is also a certified Pilate’s instructor. Kim is certified to perform BESS testing as well as Shockwave Therapy.
Kimberly Borges - Registered Massage Therapist, Certified Athletic Therapist Kimberly graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Kinesiology and also completed the Athletic Therapy Certificate Program. Kimberly became a Certified Athletic Therapist in June 2008. Since then she has completed a number of continuing education courses including Soft Tissue Release. Kimberly also obtained her Diploma for Massage Therapy at the Ontario College of Health and Technology and is member of the College of Massage Therapy of Ontario as a Registered Massage Therapist. She has worked with a variety of sports teams and was the Head Athletic Therapist for Brampton Minor Football Association and is still currently the Head Athletic Therapist of the Brampton Rugby Football Club and the Mississauga Chargers Jr. A Hockey Team.
Lawrence Yu - Physiotherapist, Medical Acupuncture Lawrence has worked with athletes in the OHL, NHL and professional tennis. His background as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) means that he is able to take clients further through return to sport exercise and sport specific conditioning. Lawrence keeps active in the gym, and running after his two kids.
Loraine Blanc - Physiotherapist, Ergonomist Loraine has been in active practice as a physiotherapist since 2003. She is also an Ergonomist, having completed The Matheson System`s Ergonomic Evaluation Certification Program in 2007 among other courses. She has done numerous assessments for our clients at AESM, in office as well as industrial settings.
Mike Hoo - Registered Massage Therapist Mike is a graduate of the Kikkawa College program in massage therapy, and is also a skilled Shiatsu provider. He is also certified in Active Release Technique. Mike is an avid long distance runner, and is able to give excellent advice on running shoe choices.
Phil Edwards - Head Therapist, Physiotherapist, Mackenzie certification, Medical Acupuncture Phil has over 20 years of clinical experience, primarily working with orthopaedic and soft tissue injuries. He has experience working with national and provincial level competitors in power lifting, rugby, martial arts, and triathlon. When not working, Phil is a black belt in Shotokan karate, and coaches’ rugby with the Oakville Crusaders. His under14 squad were Ontario Champions in 2009, and his under 16 squad were Ontario Champions in 2010.
Ryan Leung - Physiotherapist, Vertigo Specialist Ryan is a full time therapist in hospital, but spends time at AESM leading the Vertigo program. Ryan has trained in special techniques to treat patients with vertigo, and has a high success rate in teaching patients to control their symptoms.
Sandy Prescott - AESM Office Manager Sandy is AESM’s office manager who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the clinic. With over twelve years of experience working in sports medicine facilities, Sandy is knowledgeable in all services and programs that AESM has to offer.
Stefanie Senior - Registered Dietitian Stefanie Senior, Registered Dietitian, specializes in weight management, sports nutrition, chronic health conditions and general health. She studied dietetics at the University of British Columbia and did a post-graduate dietetic internship at Mount Sinai Hospital. Stefanie managed and taught the Steps to Less™ Weight Management program at St. Michael’s Hospital for three years, which involved nutrition counselling, designing and implementing nutrition and cooking programs and leading health seminars for corporations and community interest groups. She currently offers individual, group and corporate programs to help people improve their health, energy and well-being through diet, exercise and behavior modification. Stefanie helps people set achievable health goals; identify and manage triggers for unhealthy behaviour; modify eating and exercising habits; plan meals based on nutritional needs, food preferences, and lifestyle; control appetite and cravings; and provides support and encouragement each step of the way. She offers consulting services in the greater Toronto area and online video counselling through Skype.
